below this is my not so mini sermon. dun miss it!

this week sister wanping is sharing!! yay!!

Fellowship.

a child cannot grow properly with a family setting. he need parents to take care of him, feed him milk, show him love and let him grow. similarly, spritually we need a family too. the whole body of Christ is family!! when we are born physically, we are born into our physical family! zhi was born into the goat family, ken quak born into the duck family, derek was born into the orange family, julia the monkey family, sabrina the banana family, siewling the nuts family, ah beng the gangster family, ongnei the kueh family and me the bear family!! that's how i got brother bear -_-. when we are born again, we are born into the spiritual family like now!!

our relationship with God is personal, not private. we should share our experiences and troubles that we have throughout the week. one day, our family will be in heaven and we will see each other everyday for eternality, so we should practice being family right now! fellowship is being family to fellow brothers and sisters!

4 points to fellowship.

1)we are all formed for God's family! rom 12:5 says we cannot do without each other, we belong together!!
many people are in the family, but they are totally disconnected from the family. just like leprosy, the limb is first disconnected from the body, making it feel totally numb. it den slowly rots away.
similarly for a fellow brother, it is possible for people to come in and out of the church weekly, but if they stay disconnected, that will eventually rot away. we have to stay connected if we do not want to rot.

2)being God's disciples, we have to love. what is love then? 1 john 3:16 explains it by saying," this is how we know love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.". we are supposed to die for each other.
fellowship is dying for each other. it is to give up something valuable for the ones you love.
what is that valuble thing? time. time is God's currency of love. God give us all the same amount of time. it is how wisely we use it that will give rise to it's values.

love need to be shown by actions. 1 john 3:18 says," Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.". john 13: 34-35 says," a new command i give you: Love one another. As i have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." by loving others, especially the ones in the family of God, people see this Love and recgonize that we are christians because of this love!!

3)we are also accountable to the family. we ought to let the people in the family know what's happening in our lives. we are accountable for our character, behavior, attitude. it is always easier to be holy where there's somebody to bug you!!

being accountable also prevents backsliding. satan loves isolated people, he will slowly lure them away from God. But if you are connected, he cant hit you that easily. family will pull you out of sin, help you stand on your own two feet! heb 10:25 says,"let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day aproaching.". do not compromise your faith for anything else. keep meeting one another.

when this verse was written, persecution against christians were prevalant. meeting up may mean that they may die. would we give up meeting one another because of such reasons? behind this simple verse lies a very powerful meaning. the importance of meeting up and encouraging one another, to push each other on to greater heights.

4)we need others in our lives. matt 18:20 says,"For where two or three come together in my name, there am i with them.". as we gather, God the father is surely with us. when we are there for each other, Gos is always with us. rom 12:10 says,"Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.". we should love other genuinely, with honesty, without hiding any truths. this will attract non believers to us!

all humans have 2 kinds of needs: the need to be understood, to know why that are doing this.
the need to have their feelings validated, to feel assured.
fellowship keeps us from sinning. 1 john 1:7 says,"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.".
james 5:16 also says,"therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.". we should pray for each other, confess sins to each other and forgive each other!! this is that family are for!!
